So I’m now 25 and there is a sudden urge in my heart that I can’t explain but I’ll try my best. Growing up all I wanted is to be successful; be rich, drive nice cars, have a beautiful wife and raise kids, and then somewhere along the way I realized that is not all it takes to be successful.
I thought by now I’d be on the Forbes list gracing magazines across the globe and inspiring youths to be more, my dreams are still valid but is that success?
I visioned myself in the latest sports car cruising from border to border mingling with the rich and famous then I realized that its actually very lonely at the top. Success is not about what you have done for your own self but what you have done for others.
I look at prominent business men and compare them to soldiers. Personally, I think the soldiers are more successful. Success is not all about how much you’ve got, it’s about how much you’ve given. Some people give their time, money and even lives for the benefit of others, to me, that is success.
So as I turn 25 don’t expect me to throw a party and celebrate life, don’t expect to see photos of me having fun and don’t expect me to wait for flashy gifts… But accept my challenge and do more to serve humanity.
Statistics show that about one in nine people on earth do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life, take a moment and look around you, count nine people, yea, one of you is starving. That’s almost 795 million people with a large chunk living in developing countries like my beloved Kenya.
Hamza Bendelladj hacked 217 banks stealing 400 million USD and donated everything to Africa and Palestine. He was executed with a smile. He said, “I’m not apologetic of the crime, money and the power are nothing if they are not used to create a better world”. I don’t agree with his means but it’s a good story to share. If a thief cares about humanity, why not you?
I challenge you to donate your resources to humanitarian issues and make a change in someone’s life. If you don’t have enough resources to share just spare some time and talk to someone, go to a hospital and donate blood or better still put a smile on a strangers face and hopefully you will find your true meaning of success.
2 Corinthians 8:12
For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
