Tenda Wema Nenda Zako

Good

Ever been in a situation where you feel unappreciated? I have, very many times by the way, I even blogged about it and said the best remedy is to congratulate or reward yourself. I was wrong.

Tenda wema nenda zako is a Swahili proverb that directly translates to “do good and go your way”. Why is it that we find ourselves wanting to be praised, thanked and rewarded for doing good? I can’t believe I’m writing this but it just dawned on me that we should not depend on the outcomes/rewards of doing good to be good.

Sometimes we do so much and wait for blessings yet nothing comes our way hahaha! You have been visiting the sick praying for them, they get better then you contract their illness and no one comes to even visit you, that’s the time you start updating your status telling the whole world that you are dying (yet it’s just a flu) and still no one visits.

It’s a funny world, I happened to google Tenda wema nenda zako then scrolled down to the stuff google doesn’t give priority and I found a post by a lady reading:

Tenda wema nenda zako,

Do good and go your way,

utalipwa na Mungu.

You will be paid by God.

Ukingoja kusifiwa na mwanadamu ndugu yangu utaanguka,

If you wait to be praised by men my brother you will fail,

mwanadamu si mwema na hawezi kufurahia mafanikio yako.

men are not good and they never rejoice in your accomplishments.

She must have been in some twisted situation but she was right. Don’t chase after people too much. Be an example and attract them to you by working hard and being yourself. The people who belong in your life will find you and stay. Just do your thing.

1st Chronicles 16:27 – “Glory and honour are in His presence; strength and gladness are in His place.” Now you know where to find Glory, Honour, Strength and Gladness. Try to walk with God and you will know the true meaning of life.
